Monday Moanin Thoughts #47, Practice Some Resiliency

Happy Monday moanin, the week before the week of  Thanksgiving break 2012. My mentor would remind me that the week before the week of any break can be a real challenge for any school community. There are many reasons for this , but really it comes down to everyone wants some time off and it is still more than a week away. As a result focus is lacking and everyone seems to have their sense of urgency on the upcoming break and not on doing their best work . This is truly a time when all educators need to practice some resiliency. Among the many definitions of resiliency, this is the one I like:

Resilience is an occurrence of rebounding or springing back the ability to recover.

So if  things begin to get a little zany this week, be ready to rebound and refocus. Practice patience and be well planned. It is a great time to model this for your students. It is certainly a skill that all learners need to acquire and use to be successful.  We all need a dose of resilience. Lets all get to work and make it a great week.

Quote of the week;

Always do your best. It is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best and you will avoid self-judgement, self-abuse and regret.” Ruiz
