Monday Moanin Thoughts #276 Common Practices Among Top Workplaces 2017

Happy chilly, rainy November 2017 Monday Moanin to all of you.  We are a few weeks from celebrating Thanksgiving 2017. As is the case every year, it is a great time to be full of gratitude and thankfulness. It is also a perfect time to reflect on the effectiveness of your organization. As a nice prompt to assist in your reflection, I will share some feedback and comments from the 2017 Detroit Free Press Workplace Survey.

What leadership behaviors and strategies do you think are most important in successful organizations?  Nearly 250 companies participated in the survey conducted for the Free Press by Energage.  Listed below are five of takeaways the survey results.

Mat Ishbia, Shore Mortgage says, ” We want our team members to have a strong work ethic and be coachable. We also want them taking a lunch everyday.”

Karen Church, ELGA Credit Union says, ” One on one conversations are scheduled regularly where managers and team members discuss goals. These sessions are not just to point out mistakes, but also things that are done right. ” Communication is improved.

Top award companies have many employees saying that their leaders” genuinely care about the business, customers, and the staff.”

Ishbia says, “Be a thumb pointer, not a finger pointer.”

Employees at  Capital Management say they love their jobs because, ” Rapid advancement, one on one coaching. Also, every day is a new day and my managers push me to be the best version of myself.”

Reflect on the bolded words. Are they present in your organization? Get to work, enjoy your week and keep finding the good stuff.
