Monday Moanin Thoughts #22 Great Leaders Grow Part 3

Happy Monday morning,  I am excited to  continue sharing my take aways from the Blanchard and Miller book Great Leaders Grow. This week the focus is on the third area of GROW, open your world. Blanchard and Millerwrite , “Leaders will add value to their performance if they open up and expand their life and leadership experiences.” By  opening their worlds, leaders can also attain more balance in both. By expanding both the work and personal experiences,  a leader can enhance both worlds. Self-reflect on these questions; How can I open my world at work? Am I doing all that I can to grow and improve? Examples include, shadowing a student all day, meet monthly with a mentor, conduct a focus group among students to gather information about bullying at school, and conduct one on one meetings with your teacher leaders, administration and counselors.  All of these examples open up your world. The authors also believe it equally important to expand opportunities in their personal life. Examples include; travel, volunteer work, new hobbies, read books outside of their industry, and  begin a new project at home . All of these experiences will help aid growth and new skill development. By opening up to new experiences, it will become difficult for leaders to slip into complacency. Opening your world is doable and achievable.

Over the next week , set one goal at work and in your personal life that stretches you and opens your world. You can do it, get to work and GROW.

Quote of the week:

Teaching isn’t just about sharing information. It’s also about helping people draw out new learnings for themselves by the questions you ask. Blanchard and Miller
